Above is a book jacket design I created for a book illustration competition run by the Folio Society. The brief involved creating an illustration for ‘The Outsider’ by Albert Camus. I set out to create a cover that evoked the setting of the novel – French Algeria in the 1940s – using a combination of typography, colour scheme and an illustration style inspired by the era. I created the final illustration from scratch using a combination of oil paint on canvas, Photoshop and Illustrator. Finally, I imported the image into InDesign to add the typography and bleed. The 3D image below was created in Adobe Illustrator.
